Veterinarian

Dr. Todd Westin

For as long as he can remember, Dr. Westin has been interested in raising and caring for exotic animals and wildlife. He was born in the small town of Elk Point, South Dakota, where he had his earliest exposure to animal care at 6 years old with the town’s local veterinarian, Dr. Sidney Milburn. Watching him care for injured wildlife sparked Todd’s interest in becoming a veterinarian.

About me

After spending time in the U.S. Air Force and working in government service, Todd decided to pursue his lifelong dream. He graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and moved to Kountze, Texas to practice small and exotic animal medicine.

Background & Experience

Todd lives on an acreage with his very understanding wife, Cindy, along with six dogs, a miniature donkey, a llama, two Barbados Blackbelly sheep, a red deer, an axis deer, a guinea pig, a chameleon, 11 geckos, a monitor lizard, 50 snakes, 200 tarantulas, 10 tortoises, and several chickens and guineas.

Veterinarian

Dr. Allison Vignes

Growing up in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Dr. Allison Vignes-Phelps has Tiger blood running through her veins. With a mother who instilled a strong love of animals, Allison fulfilled her mother’s own dream of becoming a veterinarian. Allison attended LSU for both her undergrad and Veterinary School and still very proudly, bleeds purple and gold. (“Geaux Tigers!”)

About me

Originally, Allison wanted to be a truck driver; fascinated by the idea of a traveling home wherever she went. When she realized that the cab of a truck would limit the number of animals she could bring home, she switched gears to a less mobile lifestyle. She and her husband have since planted roots in Orange where they have continued her mother’s tradition of allowing their children to house and foster many pets under their roof.

Background & Experience

While gaining experience with various animal shelters and organizations across Louisiana, Allison was exposed to a diverse background and has accumulated more than 16 years in the industry. Allison has a well-rounded skillset due to the opportunities she’s had including some of the more harsh realities of animal care and has catered to many more types of animals than most young veterinarians. A natural-born problem-solver with a passion for animals, Allison is ready to tackle to the challenges of working with each animal that walks, crawls, bounces, hops or is carried into the NVC – Calder clinic.
